'Human rights and access to justice’ is one of the four
priority areas of South Africa’s HIV &AIDS and STI National
Strategic Plan 2007-2001 (NSP).
A major goal of the NSP is to bring about an enabling environment
that encourages people to test voluntarily for HIV and to seek and
receive treatment and social support when necessary. The NSP also
aims to ensure that human rights are mainstreamed into HIV
prevention, treatment, care and support.
MSP-funded projects have promoted human rights in the context of
HIV in several different ways. These include the development of
policy frameworks and training materials and baseline indicators on
vulnerable groups and the implementation of innovative
interventions. MSP has also contributed towards reduction of stigma
and discrimination and promoting the rights of people living with
HIV (PLHIV) and other vulnerable groups including women, children,
and men who have sex with men.
