Curriculum development and training manuals for survivors of sexual
assault

A training course was developed through a wide-ranging
consultation process for health care workers who deal with
survivors of sexual assault. The course, which is supported by a
Facilitators Manual and a Participants Manual, has been accredited
by the SA Qualifications Authority and is being rolled out across
the country.

options.

This project supports the Maternal, Children’s, Women’s Health
and Nutrition Cluster of the NDoH in their efforts to develop
national policy and guidelines for fertility options of women
living with HIV.

Rapid assessment to determine prevalence and risk behaviours
among men who have sex with men in South Africa.
Service provider: Human Sciences Research Council.
A survey of 282 men who have sex with men in Durban and
Johannesburg found an HIV prevalence rate of 38.3%, high levels of
HIV-risk behaviour and of misconceptions about HIV and AIDS.

Understanding men’s health and use of violence: interface of
rape and HIV in South Africa.

A survey of 1738 men in communities of the Eastern Cape and
KwaZulu Natal found that over 27% admitted to having raped at least
once in their lives. Levels of HIV among men who raped and men who
did not rape were similar (except for men who had raped men), and
rose significantly with age.

Assessing the experiences, health and HIV needs of street
children
Service provider: University of KwaZulu Natal.
This descriptive study of the health and well-being of street
children was designed to inform the development of effective
strategies to improve the health, well-being and future of children
who live on the streets of Durban.

One Man Can: Working with men and boys to reduce the spread and
impact of HIV and AIDS in KwaZulu Natal, Limpopo and the Eastern
Cape.
Service provider: Sonke Gender Justice.
The One Man Can campaign reached 2000 men in three provinces
with workshops and social mobilisation strategies in order to
mobilise them to take action against gender based violence and to
address HIV and AIDS in their communities.

The Siyakha project of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa
aims to reduce discrimination in the community, to build and
strengthen the capacity of dioceses to compassionately and
effectively respond to the epidemic and to increase the visibility
