Look at us now: the children of Hombe J.S.S. in
their new school uniforms
Mthethwa Esihle is in grade 5 at Hombe J.S.S. Without the
support of the MSP-funded Caring Together project, he and his
sister would still be attending school without uniforms and school
shoes.
A local caregiver explains how, during an individual meeting with
the school's 92 orphans, Mthethwa suddenly said: “If I can have
School Uniform I can be happy because all my classmates are always
laughing at me and my younger sister.”
This prompted the caregiver to appeal to the HAC (Health Advisory
Committee) to ask the local business community for donations to
fund school uniforms.
Today Mthethwa, his sister and ten other local children have new
school uniforms.
Mthethwa's story clearly demonstrates the Caring Together project's
success in improving the quality of life of orphans and vulnerable
children (OVC), by both reducing the impact of stigma and breaking
down the links between poverty and HIV.
