Reducing the number of new HIV infections and mitigating the
impact of HIV and AIDS in South Africa is the aim of the
Multi-sectoral HIV & AIDS Support Programme (MSP).
HLSP's team that managed the first phase of
MSPThe MSP has been managed by health specialists and
programme managers at HLSP, and funded by the UK Department for
International Development (DFID).
HLSP is a global consultancy working to improve world health. With
over 100 senior, technical and administrative staff, HLSP has
experience of providing technical assistance and managing complex
projects.
The first phase of the MSP covered a four-year programme that
funded over 170 projects. It worked with partners in three
government departments – Health, Social Development and Defence –
and civil society organisations. The geographical focus was mainly
on the provinces of Eastern Cape, KwaZulu Natal, Limpopo and
Mpumalanga.
Programme areas
The primary role of the MSP is to contribute to a strengthened
South African response to HIV and AIDS, with stronger support from
the international community.
Four project outputs, which reflect the priority areas of the
Government of South Africa’s National Strategic Plan (NSP), focus
on:
1. Prevention of HIV and AIDS
2. HIV and AIDS treatment, care and support
3. Strengthening key components of the South African health system
and structures including Monitoring and Evaluation and Operations
Research
4. Strengthening policy dialogue on human rights and the legal
environment for vulnerable groups
