Many people, small acts, big change...

SANAC took the opportunity of World AIDS Day to tell
the country and the world about the renewed government commitment
to fighting HIV and AIDS.
The theme of the campaign was "Leadership, Unity and action to stop
HIV". Its aim was to bring home the idea that we all have a role to
play in prevention and treatment.
A major mass media campaign ran in all national newspapers and on
66 radio stations across the country. "Mix-it" reached the cell
phones of half a million young people. The campaign reached an
estimated 91% of all South African adults.
At midday on December 1, church bells rang and workers across the
country downed tools for a minute's silence to remember those who
had lost their lives in the epidemic. Minister Hogan told the
nation that a new day had dawned in the fight against HIV.
"The war is over!...
Today is the day
we start working
and we are glad
that this is
a new beginning."
