On Sunday 19 July 2009, traffic in Cape Town came to a
standstill as 2,000 TAC members took to the streets. They were
marching to demand that the government meets the treatment and
prevention targets described in the National HIV&AIDS Plan
(NSP).

outside the centre where the International AIDS Society was holding
a major conference.
TAC General Secretary Vuiyseka Dubula told the crowd that TAC and
its allies were demanding increased resources for health and HIV
services.
She was joined by Health Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi who signed
the campaign memorandum. He told the crowd that he supported the
campaign demands and that most of these will become part of
government policy.
The TAC Resources for Health Campaign was launched in June 2009. It
aims to educate and empower communities so that they can mobilise
effectively for better health care.
Campaigns are underway in five health districts, involving nearly
four thousand TAC members and supporters. Memoranda presenting key
challenges and demands have been presented to officials from local
government, district hospitals and District AIDS Councils.
The Resources for Health Campaign is one of many TAC activities
designed to advocate and monitor the implementation of the
NSP.
