The Multi-sectoral HIV & AIDS Support Programme in South Africa

Intro

The Multi-sectoral HIV & AIDS Support Programme (MSP) was designed to reduce the number of new HIV infections and to mitigate the impact of HIV and AIDS in South Africa. HLSP has been managing MSP.
The MSP has been supporting the South African response to HIV and AIDS. Key projects have focused on civil society and public sector programmes aimed at improving prevention, treatment, care and support; strengthening the South African health system and improving policy dialogue for vulnerable groups. In November 2008, the MSP entered a new phase as the UK Department for International Development (DFID) sought to assist the newly appointed Minister of Health, Barbara Hogan. This Rapid Response Health Fund (RRHF) was designed to provide rapid and flexible support for the challenging task of reorienting South Africa's response to HIV and AIDS, and revitalising the health services. In May 2009, after the national elections, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi was appointed Minister of Health. He welcomed the RRHF and has continued to draw support from the programme. Find out more.

The MSP is funded by DFID and managed by HLSP, a specialist health consultancy. Over the past 20 years HLSP has established itself as a leading provider of technical assistance and consulting services, focusing on the creation and sustainability of quality health systems and services.
